Walking over embers and fire
In the old times fire was a symbol of deity sending energy to earth and dispelling darkness. George Sandwith worked as a British government official on Suva island in Fiji archipelagos. As many Europeans before him, he was deeply impressed with fire ceremony which he witnessed. The natives, belonging to one of many Hindu sects, ran across the 9-12 meters long ditch filled with embers in order to honour their gods.
After he retired in 1950 he wrote a book “The Miracle Hunters” in which he precisely described what he saw in Fiji. Nowadays, thanks to Rogata Fire Team you can taste the old fire ceremony and walk over a path of fire.
